How can I fix Google indexing issues on my website?

Hello,

I’m looking in the google search console if there are any issues for my website and I noticed two issues:

A lot of the pages have the status “Excluded”. According to google this is because:

The page is not indexed, but we think that was your intention. (For example, you might have deliberately excluded it by a noindex directive, or it might be a duplicate of a canonical page that we’ve already indexed on your site.)

But this is not the case. I do want most of those pages to be indexed. For example:

https://kantocardcenter.nl/products/lego-76182-batman-masker

This page is also not a duplicate that is indexed.

How do I fix this?

This is a notification I got from google. I did enter the isbn, brand and sku for my products in the shopify admin. I’m not sure where to enter the other fields.

A lot of the pages have the status “Excluded”

The page you quoted looks fine to me and it is not set to be excluded. There are many reasons why you get this message and it’s most likely that Google just hasn’t indexed it yet. So I think it’s just a case of waiting.

If you go into GSC - Coverage and select the errors then you should see this, which will give you more detail on the different reasons for exclusion.

Products issues detected:

This is common and remember it’s a warning, not an error. It’s to do with your theme not outputting all the possible structured data fields. There is a detailed article here that will hopefully explain https://sherpas.design/blogs/e-commerce/structured-data-for-shopify . If you want to ‘fix’ it then you can manually add the required code or there are some apps in the app store.

Thank you for the helpful reply. I will wait and see if those pages get indexed eventually.

The explanation of “excluded” status from google seems to be a bit misleading. Because it implies that I have to take some action to get those pages indexed.
