How can I fix the spacing issues while editing web pages?

MOSTLY RESOLVED (but still unhappy):

  1. The heading-space problem turns out to be the editor. It shows no space at all before headings.
So I put in line breaks, which made the pages look horrible when published.
(There is still too much space above them for my taste, but I can live with it. But it would be
really nice if the editor showed space above headings, so as not to be misled.)

  2. Spacing between paragraphs is still a problem. Some are actual paragraphs, and they work fine.
But the only clue is that you press at the end, you get a double-spaced next line. (If you’re
not in an actual paragraph, you get a single-spaced next line. So at least now I know what to look for.)

  3. The problems mostly resulted from pasting the text in the page. Text you simply type no doubt works fine,
but perfectly-spaced text taken from other sources does not always come out the way you want it,
it seems–the problem being that it looks okay in the editor, but comes out wrong when the page is
published. (Either the pasting process needs to do interpretive-conversions, or the editor needs to be
showing you what the user will see.)

  4. As for coloring text, I did indeed miss the option. It is an ugly option, however.
You have to copy the #unicode digits from the color you want and paste them in everywhere
you want that color. Not bad for a 2001 website. Pretty horrible for 2023.

The original message:

Spacing is a serious issue on my pages. How can I make a good impression when the spacing is wildly off, and what I see in the editor is nothing like what the user sees?

In particular:

  1. Headings in the editor look great. But when posted, there is a MILE of space above and below them.

  2. I tried changing to plain text with bold & some coloring, but then I discovered that a) There is no way to set the size of the text and b) No good way I could see to replicate the color choice reliably. (There may be a way I missed, but I sure didn’t see it. And I understand that responsiveness means text sizes shouldn’t be fixed–but in that case, spacing coming out so badly.)

  3. Spacing between paragraphs is often non-existent, and there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do to change it:
    a. Pressing enter a couple of times should be putting in paragraph tags. but it doesn’t seem to.

b. Pressing shift+enter a couple of times should be putting in a break tag, but it seems to be treated as (I’ve forgotten the term) “invisible” or “non-existent” or “non-essential” whitespace, and simply ignored.

c. Pressing shift+enter and adding a space or shift+space for a non-breaking space seems to work at first, but the next time I open the editor they’ll be removed. (I edit a lot, so I have to remember to reset every line break every time I edit???)

d. The one combination I don’t think I’ve tried is . That SHOULD produce [p][nbsp][/p]. We’ll see. But man, it’s infuriating to pay as much as I do each year and also have to work out niggling little details like this, just so what I SEE is what I GET. You dig? :__)

UPDATE:
The paragraph-spacing problem seems to resolved with enter, shift-space, enter. It produces div span nbsp; /span /div, and seems to be operating properly–the first time, at least. If it holds up, that will just leave the heading-space issues. (But I shouldn’t have to figuring out such tiny details!)

Hi @ericTreeLight ,

This is Kate from PageFly team. Have you built your store from 2001? So I’m so impressed about it.

Which theme or app do you use to build your store? If you’re not familiar with custom code, I think you can try a page builder app like PageFly, Shogun, GemPages,… to adjust the padding easily.

Can I have the store URL to check and give you more suggestions to improve it?

I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers!
