How can I get a detailed breakdown of my payout taxes?

How can I see a better breakdown of a payout? Currently on the payout screen I can see the gross sales, shopify fees and the total payout. What I need to know is the amount of taxes collected that correlates to that payout as that number is in the gross sales but I can’t see it broken down.

Hi @HeatherR !

The breakdown of the payout information is at its most detailed when exporting the data in a CSV file. You can do so under Settings > Payments > View Payouts > Export. With that being said, it does not further breakdown the payout/order with tax amounts.

If you are curious to know the taxes that are part of the gross sale amount, you can view tax reports under Analytics or directly in the order timeline. Are you essentially trying to see the taxes for an orders along with the fees and payout amount?

I look forward to your reply.

When I get my bank statement and see my $100 payout, I need to know what makes up that $100 for bookkeeping purposes. Some is fees and the rest just says sales but I know that there is tax in that sale amount. How do I pull that tax number out?

I see - thanks for clarifying @HeatherR .

In that case, you will need to pull two different reports. First, you’ll need the one from your payouts section that outlines the order numbers included in the payout along with the gross amount, fees and net amount paid. From that point, you can head to your Orders in your admin and export the data from the specific order numbers from the payout (you can bulk select the orders for export) which will show the taxes deducted for each order. That will give you the numbers you’re looking for.

Another option would be to go under Analytics > Reports > Finances > Taxes to pull tax related information. However, I find that the former option is more straight forward for your scenario.

With that being said, I can understand that this is a lot of manual work for you. I will be submitting a request to our development team to consider including taxes in the payout section of the admin to simplify your book keeping.

Cheers!

Did this ever get figured out? It is necessary for bookkeeping.

Shopify, please create a solution. The second option given by Holly, the Taxes report, includes cash sales along with the payout charges, so it is not useful here. Breaking down our Payouts into sales, taxes, and fees is essential for our bookkeeping. It is very inconvenient to download and link two different CSVs to get this basic information.

This is still so desperately needed for year end tax reporting purposes. The payout transactions come into a bank account as a lump sum. For reporting purposes accounting-wise it needs to be broken into what portion of that payout is Total Gross Income, Shopify Fees, Shipping Charges on all of the transactions in the payout, and Taxes Collected on the individual transactions that make up that payout. This currently requires a lot of of manual data analysis between reports. I’m not even finding a Dimension in the advanced Analytics that will allow this type of report to be generated.

This is still really needed. For my specific use case, we need to break down, what amount from the sale / payout was: 1. sale of product, 2. shipping fees, 3. taxes, since all three are booked differently and have different taxes implications + different write-off applications. Would be incredibly helpful to be able to select what info to include in the export.
