How can I get a same-day refund for a plan I just cancelled?

Topic summary

Main issue: A merchant was invoiced for a paid plan on the same day they intended to cancel while testing Shopify’s 14‑day trial, and requests a same‑day refund.

Support response: A Shopify staffer asks why the merchant chose not to continue and offers help with platform questions. For a refund request, they direct the merchant to contact live support via the help center: log in, search the question, then choose “Get support” and click “Continue” to see contact options.

Policy context: Refunds are generally against Shopify’s Terms of Service, but support is willing to review this specific case given the timing.

Outcome/status: No refund was issued in‑thread. Resolution is pending the merchant contacting live support for case review.

Action items:

  • Merchant: Reach out to live support using the outlined steps.
  • Support: Review the account and billing timing to determine any possible exception.

Unanswered question: Whether a same‑day charge during the trial will be refunded.

Hi there @veitecoproducts

Thank you for posting your question. Do you mind if I ask why you’ve chosen not to continue with Shopify? If you have any questions about the platform I’d be happy to help!

That being said, to request a refund I would recommend reaching out to our live support. You can contact them from this page here. Once you get to that page you’ll want to login and search for your question. After searching for your question/topic you will see some useful resources and under that there will be the option to Get support. Click Continue and the available support options will appear. If you explain to your Support Advisor what you’ve explained here they will be able to review this further.

Refunds are against our Terms of Service, but given the situation we would be happy to see what we can do in this case.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
