How can I grow my international market (mainly Europe) using a limited budget on Google advertising?

Question for Flossie or who can help

I have a running website and some sales already.

Besides sending our monthly newsletter to my regular customers, how can I grow my international (mainly European) clientele using a limited advertising budget. Thnks

These are a few approaches that involve a low to zero advertising budget.

  • Make use of Google free product listings, with these listings, you can promote your products for free, and they appear on Google search just after the sponsored products.
  • Research and identify high-profitable keywords to optimize your Shopify store. Use these keywords in product titles, descriptions, alt tags, and others.
  • Ensure your website loads faster and is mobile-friendly.
  • Promote your products/services through helpful articles, blog posts, videos, and social media content.
  • Organize the collections and categories properly to promote a simple and easy navigation.
  • Use well-lit product images and display them in all possible angles. If necessary, do include a short video on how to use the product.

Depending on your products, I will be able to share a specific techniques to increase sales with limited ad budget. If possible, do share your website details.

Dear Shanthi,

a) We sell antique book, - postcards, - documents, - coins and medallions and African art. Are you able to see my website?

I would appreciate some guidance and help to promote my page.

b) Since you are an official shopify partner, do you know why I got requests via messenger, referring excaclty to this topic? I did not give any meaningful replies to both. Possible scammers?

Thank you kindly,

Hi @HallerTreasure

Thanks for your question — it sounds like you have a really unique and valuable niche!

Here are a few ideas to help grow your European audience on a limited budget:

  1. Optimize for International SEO
Make sure your product titles and descriptions include relevant keywords in English and, if possible, other major European languages.

Use Shopify’s international domains or markets feature to create language/currency-specific versions of your site.

  1. Use Translation Tools
Consider adding multilingual support to your store. Shopify’s Translate & Adapt app can help, and if you need more control (like consistent translation of key terms), tools like Langwill offer glossary-based translation.

This helps you build trust with non-English-speaking customers.

  1. Leverage Niche Communities & Social Media
Join Facebook groups or forums focused on antique books, coins, postcards, or African art—especially ones based in Europe.

Share your story, showcase interesting items, and link back to your store without being overly promotional.

  1. Collaborate with Micro-Influencers
Find small influencers in your niche (particularly in France, Germany, Italy, etc.) and offer them a product to review or feature. Even small accounts can drive traffic with the right audience.

If you are interested in Google Ads, you should be aware it’s a very competitive space and budget-heavy. So some of my thoughts here:

  1. Start with high-intent, niche keywords
Target very specific search terms related to your products. They’re cheaper and convert better.

  2. Use country-specific campaigns
Break out campaigns by region (Germany, France, etc.) so you can control budget and tailor language or offers as needed.

  3. Leverage Google Shopping + Performance Max
These work well for product-based stores and let Google optimize across Search, Display, and YouTube with minimal setup.

  4. Geo-target your remarketing
Use remarketing ads only for visitors from your target countries it’s cost-effective and keeps your brand top of mind.

  5. Localize your landing pages
If possible, create versions of your pages in the local language or with local shipping info — it can boost conversion without increasing ad spend.
