How can I hide backup shipping rates when primary rates are available?

I use a third party app for my fulfillment services. Over the weekend, the integration went down, and I had to activate backup rates, losing 2 days worth of revenue in the meantime. The issue now, though, is that the backup rates are visible on the checkout even though the third party app is working fine now.

Some customers are choosing the backup shipping rate at the moment which means that I have to manually update these orders to have relevant generated shipping rates from my 3rd party app. I only want these backup rates to be visible should the app I am using experience technical difficulties like it did this weekend, but I don’t want it to be visible all the time.

Any way to have the backup rates active in case of an integration issue but not visible on the checkout when our primary option is available?

Hello. I’m having the same issue, I’m seeing issues with the 3rd party-generated rates and have activated backup shipping rates which will sometime appear as an option on top of the 3rd party-generated rates. Backup rates are off by quite a bit and while I’m not not loosing orders, I’m loosing money on my orders.

Has this been fixed by Shopify for someone here?

Hello, Same problem, Backup rates are problematic,
I cant setup rates by weight, for every 1kg, I got only rate options. Wherein my charges vary for every 500 grms till 60KG’s how do i tackle this?

Just had this same thing happen on our store. Customer was able to select the backup rate even though the integration was working. Setting our backup rates to a $1000 in the meantime until Shopify comes up with a method for disabling them altogether… (Can’t offer those rates for international due to tax remission issues).
