How Can I Improve SEO and Increase Patient Bookings on My Shopify Dental Clinic Website?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on improving the SEO, performance, and overall user experience of our Shopify-based dental clinic website: dentistry99.com

We’ve worked on creating informative service pages and making the site easy to navigate, but we’d really appreciate feedback from the community on how we can improve further.

I’m particularly interested in suggestions on:

  • Improving on-page SEO and technical SEO
  • Increasing local search visibility
  • Enhancing page speed and Core Web Vitals
  • Improving user experience and conversion rates
  • Increasing patient enquiries and online appointment bookings
  • Any Shopify apps or features that could help

If you notice any issues or have recommendations based on your experience, I’d really appreciate your feedback.

Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions!

G’day @dentistry99,

You could search the forum for those kinds of tips to run through. For Speed, check what apps are running on the frontend and if they are necessary, are your images or especially videos loading quickly, or could they be compressed, or resized, or both, to lower loading time. Shopify automatically minimises some code, so there’s not much there to gain.

Looking up PageSpeedInsights will give you a free tool to check out your page.

SEO is based on researching keywords and long phrases and trying to structure your pages to work them in at the best, and appropriate places and amounts. Make sure you have your alt text for images.

You might also want to look up how to get some backlinks and reviews, maybe see if you can get people to mention the site in a not pushy way on Reddit, this can improve your standing with ai recommendations.

All tip of the iceberg stuff, which you’ll read if you search the forum.

If you’d prefer, I’m happy to discuss through a message.

Happy searching and all the best of success!

Nathan

One thing worth flagging before you sink more time into on-page work. For a dental clinic the growth lever usually isn’t product-style SEO, it’s local. Most of your patients are searching “dentist near me” or your suburb name, and those results are driven by your Google Business Profile, reviews, and the local pack, not your Shopify pages. Getting that profile fully filled out with the right primary category and a steady trickle of patient reviews tends to move bookings more than almost anything on the site itself. LocalBusiness/Dentist schema with consistent name, address and phone helps too.

The other gap is the booking. Shopify is built for carts and checkout, not appointments, so if patients have to hunt for a phone number or a generic contact form you leak a lot of intent. Embedding a real scheduling tool that shows open slots right on the service page usually lifts bookings more than speed tweaks do.

Are you taking bookings through a plain form right now, or is there an actual scheduling tool on the page? That changes what I’d prioritise first.

You can have your customer reviews as backlinks. This is the fastest way to permanently boost SEO rank I know. Here is how it works:

By leaving a review after purchase, the customer essentially writes a short article about your product or service on their own personal profile on external website (i.e., backlink). That’s unique content specific to your product with a link from external site to the product page on your website.

Backlinks like these are the Holy Grail of SEO. If you have more high-quality backlinks, you’ll be on top, no matter how much content you have on your website. SEO is not about what you say about yourself, it’s what other people say about you online (backlinks). Your customers are the best people to speak on your behalf.

The only way I know how to do this is by offering Feedback Rebates. You can replace your typical “% OFF sale” discount with a rebate like this:

Buy now and get 10% cashback for your honest review after purchase” (or whatever your % is)

  1. Customer buys the product (pays full price) and receives a special review link (from external platform, not you).
  2. Once they get the product, they click that link, leave a review (positive or negative), and immediately receive their 10% cashback (partial refund).

You can display these reviews on your website, but they also live on that external platform (customer’s own profile). This is what makes them backlinks.

If, for example, you had 100 customers this week and 50 of them left reviews to redeem their rebates, you get 50 backlinks without lifting a finger. This is something most companies spend years aquiring by begging content creators to post something about them.

Here, it’s your own customers posting about your product. This is not a trick or a hack. It’s exactly the information people are looking for when searching online. Your customers know more about your product than some YouTube influencer anyway. It’s the content you want. That’s how you get the most backlinks and improve your SEO rank.

Just make sure you’re using a specialized Feedback Rebates app, not Reviews app, and not Discounts app. As per FTC guidelines, you cannot use an app that allows you to moderate your own reviews or decide who gets the rebate. Reviews, in general, should never be something you moderate. No one trusts moderated reviews.

Apps like Judgeme, Loox, Yotpo, etc., simply add a piece of text to your site and call it a review. These are not backlinks. They won’t do anything for your SEO rank. Customers don’t trust them because they’re moderated by the seller. Imagine if Amazon did this. No one would trust their reviews. That’s what hapens to Shopify merchants, unfortunatelly.

Hi @dentistry99,

Running a service business like a dental clinic on Shopify is an interesting move, but your playbook is a bit different from a standard online store. For a clinic, local trust and speed are everything.

Here are three practical areas to focus on:

1. Make your local signals loud and clear Since you are a physical clinic, Google needs to know exactly where you are. Make sure your address, phone number, and city name are in your footer on every single page. Also, try to create service pages that target local search terms (like “Teeth Whitening in [Your City Name]”) rather than just generic terms.

2. Focus heavily on mobile trust Most people looking for a dentist are doing it from their phones. Make sure your “Book Appointment” button is incredibly easy to find on a mobile screen. Also, because Google treats medical sites very strictly, put your dentists’ credentials and real patient reviews right on the homepage to build immediate trust.

3. Set up Local Business Schema and watch your speed Google uses specific code (called Schema) to read your business hours, reviews, and location. Setting this up manually on Shopify can be a headache. An app like SearchPie: SEO, Speed & Schema can handle this for you. It injects the right Local Schema into your site automatically and compresses your images so your pages load fast on mobile: which is huge for both your Core Web Vitals and patient conversions.

Are you targeting patients in just one main city, or do you have multiple clinic locations?

Hope this helps,

@dentistry99 ,

Your site already has a solid foundation with informative service pages and a clear structure. If I were reviewing it Id focus on a few practical areas first

  • Strengthen local SEO by optimizing your Google Business Profile and making sure location/service keywords are naturally included on key pages.
  • Improve Core Web Vitals especially image optimization, mobile loading speed, and reducing unused apps/scripts.
  • Add more trust and conversion elements such as patient reviews before/after results, FAQs, and clear appointment CTAs above the fold.
  • Use LocalBusiness / Dentist schema and FAQ schema to help search engines understand the site better.

For a dental clinic Id prioritize local visibility and appointment conversion before adding more apps. Even small improvements there can have a noticeable impact on enquiries.

Hey @dentistry99 ,

It sounds like you’ve already put a good foundation in place with your content and site structure.

From there, I’d focus on improving page speed strengthening your local SEO (Google Business Profile, location specific content, and reviews) and making the appointment booking process as simple as possible. Small improvements in these areas can often have a noticeable impact on both search visibility and patient enquiries.

Thank You !

In a case of a dental clinic, instead of striving for more visitors, I would aim at finding more local patients who are ready to book an appointment. To achieve that, one needs to make sure all services (implants, braces, teeth whitening, emergency dentistry, etc.) have their separate optimized pages based on relevant local keywords. In addition, one should create and optimize Google Business Profile, ask for patient reviews, and keep NAP (name, address, phone number) consistent. This set of measures will have a huge influence on the performance in local searches.
Regarding the improvements on the Shopify site itself, there should be a work done in such aspects as page speed optimization, CTA (such as Book an Appointment), inclusion of “before/after” photos when possible, FAQs section, and dentist credentials to establish trust.
Combination of all above-described efforts brings more success than mere ranking optimization.

Hello @dentistry99

Your site already has a clean design and clear service pages, so you’re off to a good start. Here are a few areas I’d focus on if your goal is to increase patient bookings:

1. Strengthen your local SEO

  • Make sure every location has its own dedicated landing page if you serve multiple areas.
  • Add LocalBusiness/Dentist schema markup so search engines can better understand your practice.
  • Keep your Google Business Profile fully optimized with recent photos, services, and regular posts.

2. Build topical authority
Instead of only service pages, publish helpful content that answers common patient questions, such as:

  • “How long does a dental implant last?”
  • “What happens during a root canal?”
  • “Dental implant vs bridge: which is better?”

These pages can attract organic traffic from people researching treatments before they’re ready to book.

3. Improve conversions

  • Add a “Book Appointment” CTA that stays visible while scrolling on mobile.
  • Display patient reviews and before/after cases (where regulations allow).
  • Include trust signals such as certifications, years of experience, emergency availability, and accepted insurance/payment options.

4. Optimize Core Web Vitals

  • Compress and properly size images.
  • Lazy-load images below the fold.
  • Remove unused Shopify apps and scripts that add JavaScript.
  • Minify CSS/JS where possible and preload your main fonts.

5. Make booking friction-free
The fewer steps between landing on the site and booking an appointment, the better. Consider adding a quick booking form or online scheduling widget that’s accessible from every page.

For Shopify specifically, I’d also recommend reviewing your image optimization and app performance regularly. Even a few unnecessary apps can noticeably affect page speed.

Overall, the foundation looks good. I’d mainly focus on creating more location-specific and treatment-specific content, improving page speed, and making it even easier for visitors to book an appointment. Those changes typically have the biggest impact on both SEO and conversions.
