How to improve your online store speed

  • Try reducing the number of apps on your store. If there are apps that are not in use, consider disabling them or removing them if it’s not needed. Some apps may leave code behind after disabling them. If you’re removing an app, then consider removing the code that was added as part of the app install process.
  • Choose a lightweight theme that doesn’t have too many features or elements that can slow down your website. Consider disabling theme features you don’t use. You can also look into hiring a Shopify Expert to assist you with this.
  • I recommend using a heatmap tool to see if customers are using certain features. Based on your findings, you can disable features if they are not being used.
  • Look into optimizing the images on your website. Large images can slow down your website. You can optimize your images by compressing them without losing quality. You can review the image optimization guide for more information.
  • Try utilizing Shopify’s Theme Inspector for Chrome. It’s a profiling tool that utilizes a flame graph to showcase Liquid render performance. This tool assists in identifying the lines of code that cause pages to slow down in your online store.

Lastly, I recommend looking into Lighthouse. You can run your own Lighthouse report using Google PageSpeed Insights to view more detailed metrics for pages in your store.
