Hello, is there a way to limit the states showing in the State drop down in the checkout. I only need to sell in 1 city, thus 1 state. I have setup shipping for only that State and City. But the drop down still shows all states. I guess hiding those fields for State and Postcode aren’t possible?

The reason that this is happening is because when you initially go to set up your Shipping zones, and you add the United States zone, it automatically comes with all of the states checked, so they will show up in the long list on the checkout.
To exclude every state that you do not want to ship to, you will need to go to Settings > Shipping and Delivery > Manage rates. Once you’re there, you will need to click on the three dots across from the name of the shipping zone, where you will see an option to Edit:

You will have to search for the United States in the search bar, then go to expand the states by clicking on the arrow here:
As you can see, the states are all checked, so you will need to manually go down the list and uncheck them. Make sure to Save your changes, then you should see that the checkout only shows the state that you ship to.
You mentioned that you’re selling only to one state - is there a reason for this? I would love to hear some more about your store and products to see if I can offer any other advice!
Hi Lana, thank you for replying. I’m not selling in the United States. Anyways for the country I am selling I have only selected 1 state like you explain. But all other states are still showing in the shipping dropdown.
I see! If you have removed those states, it is possible that there may be a cache issue which is causing you to still see it as it was before. Try to clear your browser cache following these steps here and take a look at it again.

Please let me know if there is a way to limit the number of states that display in the drop-down menu in the checkout process… There is only one state to sell in...There is only one shipping method. Nevertheless, all states appear in the drop-down menu… The State and Postcode fields can’t be hidden, right?
Yes @resame , need to know. But Shopify staff seems clueless. Hoping other community members can help out.
UPDATE ON THIS ISSUE:
After investigating this further with my team, we confirmed that all of the states appearing, including if you ‘un-check’ them in the settings, is part of the design. Though customers are able to select all states in the drop down, they are made aware that the products are not shipped there on the next page, so they cannot go through checkout.
I understand your frustration when it comes to all of the states being expanded even though you do not ship there, and while we cannot change this at the moment, I have added your feedback to an existing list of merchants who have also come across the same issue and had this request. I appreciate all of the details you provided here, and hopefully we can see this changed in future!
