I don’t want my products shown on my home page. I want 5 squares that, when clicked, are linked to my 5 collections that I have set up. I have no idea how to do it. Nothing I tried has worked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you!!!

Given the details, its very hard to have an exact answer to your question, but I hope that the below clarifies a thing or two.
Most of the themes are giving the possibility to enable/disable homepage sections, and that is correct, assuming an easy page management. If the theme you are using does not have this functionality, you might consider using a different theme.
