How can I make Ella theme header navigation transparent with a black color scheme for desktop?

Topic summary

A user needed help making the Ella theme’s header navigation transparent with a black color scheme on desktop and tablet views. They had already successfully implemented this for mobile but couldn’t extend it to larger screens.

Solutions provided:

  • BSSCommerce-HDL suggested adding CSS targeting .section-header-navigation:not(.scrolled-past-header) .header-plain--transparent with background-color: #333333

  • Made4uo-Ribe provided detailed instructions to add CSS code in the theme’s base.css/style.css/theme.css file:

.header-navigation.header-nav-plain.header-plain--transparent {
    background-color: #333333;
    opacity: 0.8;
}

Outcome: The issue was resolved successfully. The user confirmed the solution worked and thanked the contributors.

I tailored this code specifically for the mobile display of the website, and it’s operating as expected. Nevertheless, I’m encountering difficulty in extending the same functionality to the desktop and tablet variants. Could you provide guidance on how to address this?

Here’s the CSS code snippet for your review:

CSS:

@media only screen and (max-width: 767px) {
.header-mobile {
background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.8); /* 50% black with transparency */
}
}

Hi @esmoent , Pls insert this code to your file css

.section-header-navigation:not(.scrolled-past-header) .header-plain--transparent {
    background-color: #333333 !important;
}

Hope this can help you,

Hi @esmoent

Check this one.

From your Shopify admin dashboard, click on “Online Store” and then “Themes”.

Find the theme that you want to edit and click on “Actions” and then “Edit code”.

In the “Assets” folder, click on “base.css, style.css or theme.css” file, depending on which file your theme uses to store its CSS styles. At the bottom of the file, add the following CSS code:

.header-navigation.header-nav-plain.header-plain--transparent {
    background-color: #333333;
    opacity: .8;
}

And save.
