How can I make my subdomain display as a separate page with its own theme?

Currently, I have my website set up as FitnessXpression.com, and I created a sub-domain, since I wanted to set up meal preps from there, so the subdomain name is, mealprep.fitnessXpression.com.

I have it linked to the main account, but how do I set it up, as its own page, with it’s own theme, so when people go to the website, I can link them directly to the page, and they could see pictures of the food, and put in orders for the food?

Hi @Chefsthatlift ,

Great question! From what you’ve said, I think you might be talking about a re-direct from one of your subdomains?

With that in mind, a subdomain would be connected to your Shopify store and it means when people type in - mealprep.fitnessXpression.com they would then be directed to your store the same as if they typed in FitnessXpression.com. If you wanted the other domain to have it’s own theme and look a little different it would mean having another store for it.

You can see the help doc Shopify has on URL redirects here and for redirecting a domain here to give more context to them. Can you let me know if that’s exactly what you want to do to make sure we’re talking about the same thing?

Yes, that’s the problem that I was having, I thought a subdomain was a small branch off from your main domain… I thought, you could put mealprep.fitnessXpression.com, so people would be link to an individual page, for example, so that if people were visiting my main website to buy fitness clothes, I would be able to put the link at the top, to direct them to that specific page, where it can have its own theme, with pictures of the meal preps, food, and so they could put in orders? Hopefully, I’m being clear, I have my website set up, but this is very new to me, and I hope that you can understand…

Ps.

What is the difference between having a subdomain, and having a url redirect ? Doesn’t the url redirect take you to an individual page, synonymous to how a subdomain would?

Really good questions @Chefsthatlift and I’m glad you asked!

I can completely see how sub domain could be seen that way, but it would act as a domain redirect to your store in this case. So any subdomain you add to your store would redirect to your primary domain giving you more scope with similar domains.

There wouldn’t be a huge difference between a subdomain and URL redirect, but the main difference is that sundomain would be for a domain specifically and the URL redirect is more related to pages within the website. Shopify has information guides on them both which you can see below that might help explain this better for you:

I hope this helps and answers your questions! Don’t hesitate to ask me if you have any others.
