I am learning my way on Shopify with the Dawn theme.
I want my products to be searchable by the name of an author.
I will like the option to add the “Author name” to a product. Also, that name can be searchable.
How I can accomplish that? Creating an "Author Collections? with Metadata?
What is the best procedure to do that?

You can use Metafields for it.
First, you create Metafield for the product as ‘Author name’, it will help you to enter the author name and display it on the product page.
Then you add Filter METAFIELDS ‘Author name’ in Navigation, it will help you to display filter search.

Is there any way to add it in a Menu instead of a filter?

You can copy the entire Author/Artist link and paste it directly into the menu, this is the only way to display it.
