How can I make the featured product image and text clickable?

Hi!

I am using the dawn theme and noticed that the image and text on the featured product is not clickable. The only way to go to the product page is to click “View all -->”. Does anyone know how to make the image and text clickable?

The website is myggdreper.no.

Hey there, @MagnusHeide . Nice to meet you! Thanks for coming to the Shopify Community today with your question about your Dawn Homepage and your product! I’m more than happy to chat with you about your question.

I took some time to explore your homepage and noticed that your ‘Featured Product’ is using the ‘Featured Product’ block that’s built into the Dawn theme. The header and image in this block are not editable, so you won’t be able to make these assets clickable without adding some coding to your Dawn theme. This is because the ‘Featured Product’ block serves as a mini product page that allows customers to easily shop your product. I personally LOVE it when a homepage as a block like this, because it makes shopping for a particular product incredibly easy from a customer perspective.

If you wanted to make it so the image or the heading lead to the product’s actual page, you could consider the following options:

  • Replace the ‘Featured Product’ block with something like a ‘Featured Collection’ block that features a collection that just contains the singular product. This will allow for an image to be shown, along with a title, that can be clicked and will lead customers to the product’s page. This will remove the ability to purchase directly from the homepage, however. You could restore this functionality with third party applications, or adding coding. You could give this a try, and see if any of the Dawn blocks match something that lets you achieve this feature, while still looking pleasing on your home page.
  • Reach out to our Live Support Team using this link here to see if our in-house Theme Specialists can assist you with this coding change to make the header/photo clickable. Since you’re using the Dawn theme, we may be able to assist you with this change directly. I can’t promise that our team can, but it never hurts to ask!
  • Lastly, you could wait for a reply from a Shopify Partner here on the Fourms, or you can consider hiring one to assist you with the change. You could do so by using the Shopify Experts page here: https://bit.ly/3HkZ0R4.

Personally, I would recommend trying out the first suggestion I’ve provided, and then look into seeing if our Team can lend you a hand directly. The Expert route would be your third supported option, but it’s likely something can be discovered by exploring the Dawn blocks a bit more, and speaking with our advisors directly.

If you have any additional questions, just follow up with me here and let me know!

Hello @Imogen_1 !

Thank you for your thorough feedback. I will definitely have a look at your different options. Thank you very much for your time and for getting back to me this quickly.

Hey again, @MagnusHeide !

We’ll always be here for you whenever you have questions that we can lend a helping hand with! Explore those options, and if you come across any questions along the way, you can reach back out to me in this thread and we can discuss!

Thank you @Imogen_1 !

To me your second option seems like the best one, if it’s doable of course. With a collection I won’t get the reviews on the front page, and you would have to go ‘Home > Collection > Product’ to reach the product. If your team is able to make that change, or try, it would be highly appreciated.

I can’t seem to find the Live Support through the link, I keep going back to the “Ask about a topic page”. Is there an email address I can use to contact the team?

Thank you again for your time :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey once again, @MagnusHeide !

I agree that option two sounds the best. I’m optimistic that the team can lend a hand! Again, I can’t say for sure that they can, but I’ve got my fingers crossed!

You’re also correct that the reviews wouldn’t be shown using a different block than the ‘Featured Product’ one. The review coding could be added to the homepage if you wanted to try that, but this would be something our team likely wouldn’t be able to support.

Try these steps when clicking the Support Link I provided:

  • Login to your Shopify Account once you click the link
  • There will be a large search bar that appears. Type anything into that bar and hit ‘enter’ or ‘search’
  • On the next page, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the green button that says ‘Contact Us’
  • From there, you can select your desired support method and then get connected with us!

Let me know if the above steps work for you!

Hi again @Imogen_1 !

Aha, I didn’t see the button, thank you!
I will contact support, thank you for all the assistance.

Wish you a lovely evening!

Hi, @MagnusHeide !

Just checking in to see if you were able to get in touch with our team! Just curious to see what advice they were able to provide!

Feel free to follow up with me here if you like!

Hi @Imogen_1 ! Thanks for checking in.

It looked like they were able to do it and we agreed on the changes, but the request was forwarded to someone else on the team who said my store was closed. I got back to him yesterday and gave him the website address again but haven’t heard anything since. Hope he will be able to do it :slightly_smiling_face:

Sounds like you’re in good hands over there with the Team. For now, I’d communicate with them when you can and they should help you get things worked out! I’m sure I speak for them when I say that we appreciate your patience in working on the request!

Thank you @Imogen_1 ! I will communicate with them.

Thank you for all assistance, you have really gone above and beyond. I appreciate it a lot! Wish you a wonderful Easter.

I hope you have a great Easter as well, @MagnusHeide !

Before I let you go, I wanted to let you know that while I was exploring your store I really loved the design of the homepage, and all of the information you provided about your product. It actually had me thinking about 'why’ you decided to start selling in the first place. This is when I started looking for an ‘About us’ Page. I noticed that you had a lot of great info there, but I was still left wondering about the ‘why’ of your business!

I wanted to provide you a resource here that may help you improve your About Us page a bit, so it lets potential customers know more about your products! You can check out that resource here: https://bit.ly/3yYxSDL.

Once again, I hope you have a great Easter! If you have any questions about anything else related to your shop, or if you’d like some additional feedback, just let me know!

Thank you for the feedback @Imogen_1 ! I really appreciate it. I will definitely work on the about us page and give an insight to why we have decided to sell mosquito killers. That is a very valid and important aspect you have pointed out that customers might look for. Thank you!

I now got the changes done by the team so that the image and text are clickable! They also added a button so that I can turn that on and off, works perfectly.

What I now notice is that there is a bit of space between the vendor name and title. I would like the vendor name removed and see that others have asked developers here to do it for them as there is no button (at least that I can find) that does that. Would you be able to remove the vendor name?

Thanks again for all the help and advice @Imogen_1 ! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey there, @MagnusHeide ! Super happy to hear that our team was able to help you make those assets clickable!

I took a few minutes to check out the section that our team worked on for, as well as your product page. I wasn’t able to see a vendor name within the section, but I may be misunderstanding exactly what you’re pointing out. If possible, can you provide a screenshot of the vendor name, and where it’s appearing, so I can take a look?

I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your reply!

Hi @Imogen_1 !

Maybe it’s called something else. It’s the text saying “MYGGDREPER” in the image attached. It’s not that important though, just wanted to know if it is possible to remove it.

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey again, @MagnusHeide ! I appreciate you trying to send me that screenshot. Since it came in as a zip file, I wasn’t able to open it, but it’s totally okay as I believe I found what wording you were talking about. Check out my screenshot below.

I did some digging within the Dawn theme I use in my own store and didn’t see an option to hide the vendor name. I then checked out the product settings to see if we could simply blank out the vendor name there, but this wasn’t possible.

So it looks like another coding change is in order here to get that hidden! Since you’ve spoken to us in the past about working on your store, you can reply to those previous emails and get back in touch with us! Or, you can reach out how you did originally if you wanted to. Either way, we should be able to lend a hand with the help of our Theme Team!

Hi @Imogen_1 ! Sorry for the late reply and thank you for your feedback! Yes, that’s the name I was talking about. Thank you for your advice, I will might have the team look at it.

Also I improved the about us page with your tips and advice. Thanks a lot!

Wish you a lovely weekend!

Hey again, @MagnusHeide . Thanks for the weekend well wishes!

Happy to hear that you got those changes made! Little things like that can have a big impact in the long run!

If you ever need anything else, just follow up here and ask away! I’d be more than happy to help you out with anything else in the future!

Until next time!

Hi there,

On our homepage (Dawn theme) we have a Featured Collection with 8 products in it, I would love to make the images themself clickable to take you to the individual product pages. It feels like it should be something native to Dawn but maybe there is something on the backend preventing this. Thanks

It’s www.Printvas.com

Best,
D

Hey there, @DomViddy . Thanks for joining in on the conversation here.

Thanks for providing a link to your online store. I navigated to your store, and checked out the section that you showed in your screenshot. When I clicked on the image representing these products, I was taken to the individual product page. This was the use case as well for the title of the product.

This functionality of clicking the image/title of the product is natively built into the ‘Featured Collection’ section of your theme, and since that’s the section you’ve used here, things appear to be working as intended.

I recommend that if you’re still not able to click these assets to be taken to the product page, to do a cache/cookies clear of your browser, or to use a private/incognito window to access your site. This will clear any saved browser data, and show you how your site functions as if you were a new visitor.

Give the above steps I mentioned a try, and follow up with me here if you have any continued issues with clicking these assets and being taken to the product page.
