Is there a way to link / merge accounts together. For example we often have multiple people at a particular business ordering for the one business (with different emails etc). At the moment these are all treated as separate accounts on shopify but it would be great for them to be able to group together.
Welcome to the Shopify Community! Thanks for taking the time to reach out about how to merge customer accounts. At this time, it is not possible to merge accounts through the Shopify Admin. I do understand the inconvenience that this can cause, and the use case for why this would be helpful. We have a couple standing threads regarding this topic in the Community linked here, as well as here, you are not alone with this request.
I’ve gone ahead and submitted some feedback to our developers on your behalf regarding this issue. We understand this is a long standing request, however it is true that every piece of feedback helps.
There are some workarounds that may help ensure sales are attributed to the most relevant customer account, such as:
Editing the customer’s name, or email address, on the dormant account. This will ensure that new orders are placed under the active account only.
Adding tags to active customer accounts to signify repeat purchases, or to highlight any order preferences related to the customer.
If we have any updates to share on this feature request in the future, we’ll be sure to post on our Announcements page, as well as on our changelog. You can always keep an eye out. Thanks again for reaching out about this!
Thanks for the reply and the feedback regarding the workarounds. I understand how important this feature request is to many. Thanks again for taking the time to reach out and share your feedback, I have passed this on to our developers.
Currently, it allows you to link accounts together. It will then give you a single overview with the info of all these accounts, including a list of all orders.
I’m saying currently because the app isn’t a month old yet and I’m working on new features. Most prominently is a feature to display all orders of all the accounts you combined on the customer’s order history page.
It won’t full-on merge accounts together, but I think this might be useful in your situation.
If you want to try it out I would love to hear if it works for you, or if it doesn’t why and if there is perhaps something we could do to make it useful for you.
Thanks for this! I’ve download it and it looks to be useful so far. I completely understand it’s in the early days but I’ve made note of a couple of things that would be useful.
have a link to the overview from the customer page rather than to have to go into the app to see the overviews.
to have a group name and for this to be reflected in the Tag. eg rather than “main-account” tag, it said “main-account-marthacafe”
instead of “duplicate-account”, could be “martha-cafe-group”
I appreciate you getting in touch to let me know about it though!
The link from the “native” customer page to the customer page in the Doppelganger app is on my list already, so great to hear that feature is validated.
I’ve had one other merchant mentioning group labels. So it’s going on the list to look into. The ‘main-account’ and ‘duplicate-account’ labels are actual tags on the customer and are currently used for several purposes throughout the app. Allowing user input on this might prove troublesome. But there’s a solution for (almost) everything. So I might get back to you about this one to ask for some more info and feedback.
If there is something else, let me know. I’m available.
