How can I message specific customers directly from the orders page?

Hi,

We are looking to select orders on the main orders page that are affected by a specific delivery issue and send them a message. Is there a quick way to do this, rather than selecting the relevant orders, having to export them into csv and then copy all the relevant emails into our mail system? Can we just do this straight from Shopify?

Thanks

Hi Rana_Roushdi1,

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Customers.
  2. Click the customer name.
  3. In the Customer overview section, click the customer’s email address.
  4. Edit the subject line for the email, or leave it as the default. …
  5. In the Custom message field, enter your message.

Hi @Rana_Roushdi1 ,

Shopify is not an email hosting service, so there isn’t really a native way of sending out a round-robin email unless it is a marketing campaign through our Shopify Email l marketing automation. Shopify Email is usually used to send out promotions or marketing campaigns to segments of customers, but you could theoretically use it to send out an email to customers affected by a delivery issue.

In order to do this though you need to already have Shopify Email set up and your customers need to already be subscribers to your store (thereby granting you permission to contact them via email).

If you haven’t already got this all set up, then you might find the process of setting up a subscriber list and email campaign lengthier or more time-consuming than simply exporting a CSV and inputting the customers’ emails into your own email service.

With that said, having an email marketing function in place now will certainly help your business in the long term. Email is, after all, the best way to stay in contact with your customers. So this is almost certainly something you’ll want to consider sooner rather than later.

Can I ask what the delivery issue was and if there’s any other way I can help with it? And what kind of business are you running?

We had send out orders as they’re baked (we are a bakery), but there is a postal strike one day this week which could affect some orders, so we wanted to only email those customers potentially affected, and the easiest way to do this is to select the relevant orders in our front end and send a generic email to them. We wanted to select them the same you would to print packing slips etc and email from there. When in the actual order itself, we can press the email address and it generates an email within Shopify that we can then populate and send, but that is only to send messages one at a time, but it has our branding etc. We already have a spearate (but connected) email marketing system.

Thanks

Alexander

We want to to send the same message to multiple people, and doing it this way is too time-consuming. Thanks

I understand. While not available natively, I will be sure to pass your feedback on to our developers as I can appreciate how it would be useful in cases such as this to be able to quickly notify customers of an issue with their order from within the admin.

In the meantime, have you tried putting a notice out on your social media? And do your order confirmation emails include links to your social media at all? Just a thought!

Thanks Andrew, we have used alternative methods, advising on confirmations and using pop-up’s on the website to advise customers.

Kind regards,

Alexander
