How can I offer multiple purchase options for photography prints on Shopify?

I’m looking to use Shopify to sell photography prints which can be on a variety of products. What I would like to do is have multiple heading such as Print, Canvas etc and within those have other options such as size

Prints

–7x5

–8x6

–10x8

Canvas

–30x15

–40x20

So the customer would see an image, click on it to buy and then be presented with options of Print or a Canvas. If they choose Print they’re then offered a number of size options, likewise if they choose a canvas.

Is this possible? If so how do i configure Shopify to achieve this?

Hi, @iLoX ,

Happy to see your interest on the platform!

When it comes to your query, this can definitely be done in Shopify. We have provided a variant feature for our products so you can definitely set up your products as such.

A print of your choosing can be made into a product with different variants. Using your example, you can create a product that has variants for print or canvas and each of those will come with different sizes of your choosing.

I have attached some documents from our Help Center that walks you through this: What are Variants and Manage Variants. These documents will explain how variants work on the platform and how to go about enabling this in your own store/products.

If you plan on creating a ton variants however you can only create up to 100 variants for a product.

Each product can have up to 3 options. The options can be different from product to product. For example, one product can use size, color, and style, and another product can use weight, finish, and material.

Let me know how these work out for you!

thanks, yes I have done that but it appears to bunch the options together and I can’t assign a separate price for each item… for example

I have Product thats a Photo.

I create 3 Options (Print / Canvas / Acrylic) and each one has the choice of sizes.

When i go to price each item and size it bundles them together and I can only enter a single price.

Thanks for that extra bit of information.

Please refer to the screenshots below in order to change the prices of each variant:

  • click on the boxed area, “edit” then, “edit prices

Yes understood but unfortunately thats still not working for me…

As you can see I have 1 photo

This photo can be purchased on a number of products… In this case a choice of a Fine Art Print, Framed Canvas or on Acrylic. Each product needs an individual size and price. When i go into edit as you suggested it seems to automatically bundle multiple sizes under 1 price, I need these to all be separate.

Thanks for that extra bit of information again.

I think our error lies within the options/variants that was created. Please refer to my screenshot to see how I would arrange this product based on your requests:

Options should be the type of photo and the print size. Please enter all your sizes. I only entered two for the sake of this example. Once entered as displayed in the screenshot, you can see that each print will have their own size assigned to it. You can then assign your own prices to these individual products. If you happen to create a variant that is not an option you’d like to offer, you can simply delete that variant from this collection.

Thank you Daniel, we’re making good progress. After making your recommendations I think we’re almost there although I am running out of time on my trial. Only issue I have now is that the deleted variants still show for the product in the store even though they’re not available, is there a way to hide those?

For example in the picture.. a 23" x 13" Print only is available under Fine Art Print. It is not available as a Framed Canvas so I have deleted that variant but it still shows. I appreciate it can’t be purchased and no price is showing but it adds confusion for the customer so I would like only the sizes available for each type to show.

My pleasure! Glad my suggestion is panning out for you guys.

When it comes to hiding variant options you are not offering, I am unfortunately not finding any work-arounds into hiding them. Using my own store, I also get the same outcome as you are: variant is shown but not available for sale. You can always look into hiring an expert for this as it might require some coding to hide those variants OR the notations you included are also helpful: some variants are only print only and what not. These notations were clear enough for me as a buyer.

Also, you mentioned that you trial is ending. If you need more time, you can always reach out to our Support Team for an extension. We usually give out free trial extensions once especially if you need more time during this store set-up stage.

You can also inquire about our 60 minutes of free design time. You qualify for this if you are on a paid plan as well as using a Shopify made theme. If possible, you can also relay this request to hide deleted variants to our Support Team and they can see if our Themes Team can fulfill this request for you.

Hi @iLoX ,

Amy here from AvisPlus Product Options - Customize Product Options & Increase Conversion Rate.

I believe our free app could be a good fit for your request thanks to a feature called Conditional Logic (meaning variant B will appear if variant A is selected previously. You can access our demo store and see the tumbler demo). For example: 23" x 13" Print only will only show if customers click at Fine Art Print in the first option. It will avoid confusion for customers when shopping and thus increase conversion rate.

Our team also offers free customization to match your brand image and the app does not require coding skills at all to set up/style.

You can send me a direct message here/email us for more information & book an online onboarding. Our team is more than happy if you could give it a try!

P/s: @Daniel_41 's method to set up the variants is really insightful. Thank you!
