Is there a way to give specific customers of my choosing free UPS Ground shipping on their orders that are placed online - but still charge for expedited shipping if that’s what they choose? My industry is pretty relationship based and I’d like to be able to give free Ground shipping to those customers where the opportunity or loyalty warrants it. The only options I’ve seen to date are the Free Shipping Banners to incentivize someone to buy a certain amount to get free shipping, or giving them a discount code for a specific amount or percentage - neither of which does what I need.
Hi, there! Would love to help and with some more details I should be able to help narrow down to the best option here.
What exactly are you envisioning for these specific customers? Are you wanting the system to recognize them and just offer the shipping discount as a loyalty perk? Is it a one-time discount of consistent access to free UPS shipping?
Do you have customer accounts set-up and if not, what determines which specific customers you’d like to offer this perk to? Also, would the shipping count for any product and any order size or would you requite parameters/limits set in place?
Hi, thanks for the questions. Either the system recognizing the customer, or they log in to order would be great. My ideal is that there is simply a button I check somewhere on the customer info page that will then give them free UPS Ground shipping (they still pay for expedited) on any order they place online, every time they order, no matter what they order. This would be fully at my discretion - I would give it to loyal customers or as a tool for new large opportunities as a sales tool.

You have 4 options you can work with to help you achieve this. Utilize an app (with the addition of Carrier Calculated Rates), Set up a shipping zone with free rates (these are product or location specific), create a unique discount code for individual customers or, use a draft order to create a custom invoice to exclude shipping.
Shipeasy - this App enables you to set specific parameters and rules based on 20+ options including special rates by customer. It comes with a 30 day free trial as well as a free plan, though it requires you to have Carrier Calculated Rates enabled, which you can do via a Plan upgrade or by getting in touch with our Support Center.
Set up a Shipping Zone with free rates. This options allows you to set specific criteria based on a certain value, weight or product. For example, you can set the rate to appear for customers if they exceed a certain cart value as a part of your loyalty program.
Create free shipping discounts - This is a great option because you can either generate a random code or create your own code to customize it. This means you can add elements like your customers name or other personal elements so the code is completely their own.
Draft Orders - with this option, you can personally take your customers order/request, draft an invoice and determine everything from the shipping rates, taxes and product pricing or discounting.
Give those options a try and let me know what you think!

that option does not work since the free shipping code would give the customer the ability to get free expedited shipping as well as ground shipping. There needs to be a better way to limit the options shown shipping method wise when a discount code for free shipping is entered.
