How can I prevent my inventory from showing negative while drop shipping?

Hello, first, I would like to say that I need to continue to sell items when out of stock, because I do a blend of drop shipping and inventory shipping.

Is there a way to keep inventory from going below zero?

Here is my issue:

I sell 10 (Product A) by drop shipping when out of stock

Inventory shows -10 for Product A

I don’t receive those 10 items because they are drop shipped

I bring in quantity 5 of Product A

Inventory now shows -5 of Product A when I actually HAVE 5 in stock

There has to be an easy fix to keep inventory levels from going negative but also continue to track and sell when out of stock

  1. I do not want the customer to think items are backordered or preordered as many of my drop shipped items will ship same day.

  2. Both of these systems are assuming that I will receive items at some point (then turn around and ship), which I will not, because they are shipped directly from manufacturer to customers. This doesn’t alleviate the issue.

Jslym, why are you not adding the stock that is being fulfilled from your drop-shipper into your system?

You sell 10 (Product A) by drop shipping when out of stock

Inventory shows -10 for Product A

Once you send your shipment request to your drop shipper, add 10 to your stock. Its now zero.

When you bring in quantity 5 of ProductA Inventory now shows 5 on hand.
