I run a custom portrait business with strong sales on Etsy, but I struggle to generate independent traffic to my Shopify store. I’d like to understand which SEO tactics, content strategies, schema markup, or AI-search optimizations (Google + ChatGPT/AI Overviews) can help my Shopify site get discovered organically.
Hi @user3228
Transitioning from Etsy to a standalone site is a big step.
For SEO Stategires, since you are in a highly visual niche, don’t compete with Etsy for generic terms like “custom portrait.” Instead, target “Occasion + Style” phrases. Something like “Watercolor Dog Memorial Painting” or “Renaissance Cat Portrait” should do the trick.
In regards to AI, AI engines “read” images through text context. Your descriptions must explicitly detail the art style and medium, not just the upload process. I also recommend creating “How-to” guides to establish the E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) authority that Google and ChatGPT look for when ranking experts.
Finally, since custom goods lack barcodes (GTINs), ensure your Product schema is set to IdentifierExists: false so Google doesn’t penalize you. Most importantly, import your Etsy reviews and wrap them in AggregateRating schema. Getting those 5-star snippets to appear in Google search results is the single best way to build immediate trust for a new store.
All of these can be streamlined by using our app SearchPie: SEO, Speed & Schema, just a few clicks of a button and you should be good to go!
Hope this helps!
