Since you haven’t shared any details about your domain, it’s tough to be sure if it is still in your ownership, or in a grace period. The best solution in cases where you are unable to receive the email for domain verification (always remember to double check junk mail), is typically to send the verification email to an alternate email address. You can change the email address by going to Settings > Domains > Domain settings > Edit contact information, though it sounds like you have already tried this successfully.
