How can I reduce inventory based on draft orders?

We need to have our inventory reduced based on draft orders. We give payment terms to some customers and leave their orders in draft status.

Is there a way to have the inventory reduced while in draft status?

Have you tried the inventory reserve option when creating a draft order?
Although it does not remove the inventory quantity from the backend, it does put a hold on the reserved quantity internally.

To reserve the products included in an invoice or a draft order, click Reserve items and then select how long you want the items to be reserved. This reserves any items that have inventory tracking enabled, but doesn’t adjust their actual inventory levels in your Shopify admin.> > https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/orders/create-orders

Alternatively, maybe someone can provide hints of a public Shopify app that has this functionality, but I am not aware of any at this moment.

Thanks Nick. Shopify Chat suggested the same option. I was hoping it would reflect in the inventory totals for each day. We may have to manually adjust our report to reflect the reserved quantities.

Hi @VDXDistroMgr ,

I have recently added a feature to Draft Order Helper app (https://apps.shopify.com/draft-helper ) that allows you to deduct inventories for products used in a draft order in one click :

After installing the app, you can go to your draft order, select “More actions” > “Adjust inventory” , then deduct the inventories of the products used in the draft order, this will make the inventory count reflect the actual numbers.

The app has a free plan (5 free inventories deduction) which you can give it a try, https://apps.shopify.com/draft-helper, hope this can help you!

I wanted to update this thread and point out that it is now possible to reserve inventory on a Draft Order and see that reflected in the product’s inventory. The reserved quantity is ‘Unavailable’.

This is one good part of the recent inventory update.
