I just set up my store and there is a bank card on file that does not belong to me. I’m not sure how this issue happened. I tried to remove it but it is telling that I have to enHow can it be removed so that I can add my card information to take payments?
This is Elias from Shopify Support. I’d be happy to lend a hand with this!
You can’t remove a credit card on file; however, you can update your billing information and replace it with a valid credit card to pay for your subscription. If that doesn’t work, then our Support team can also assist you with this. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community, our Support team would be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. To get in touch with our Support team, please visit the Shopify Help Center and log in to your account.
Was there any specific error messages when you tried removing/updating the credit card on file?
Yes, it said that I wasn’t to change my credit card to accept payment
without having the Wells Fargo card info. That is not my account. I don’t
want my payment from my store going into that Wells Fargo account.
It sounds like you’re referring to the bank account on file for depositing your payouts, which might be pointing to a Well’s Fargo account due to a mistype in the account number. In order to resolve this issue, please contact our Support team so we can get a closer look and verify your account. Once that’s done, our teams will be able to help remove the account on file and you’ll be able to enter a new bank account to your file.
I’d love to know when our Support team can help you resolve this issue. Please keep me posted!
You are absolutely correct - you can only replace an existing credit card through the Shopify admin. However, if for any reason you need to remove the credit card on file, then this is something that our Accounts team can help you with. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit the Shopify Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request.
