How can i remove shopify customer order confirmation email notification completely

Topic summary

A user wants to completely disable Shopify’s default order confirmation emails because customers are receiving multiple notifications—one from Shopify, another from Sky Pilot Digital Downloads, and a third from Omnisend.

Key findings:

  • According to Shopify staff responses in related threads, completely disabling order confirmation emails is not possible, as they serve as the official receipt for online purchases.
  • Users can edit notification templates in Admin Settings under ‘Notifications,’ but customization is limited to basic elements like logos and CTA button colors.
  • More advanced customization (background images, fonts, body images) is not available within Shopify’s native email editor.

Suggested alternatives:

  • One participant recommends switching to SMS notifications (e.g., via txtcart) for better customer engagement and to reduce email saturation.
  • A third-party article from HulkApps was mentioned as a potential resource, though its effectiveness remains unverified.

Status: The discussion remains unresolved, with no confirmed method to fully remove Shopify’s order confirmation emails.

i want to remove the default shopify order confirmation email notification that it sends to customers as i have an email already from sky pilot digital downloads plus another email from omnisend so it’s too much that the customer receives.

Hey @dumbl3d00r

I have not tried this myself, but HulkApps seems to have an article on this topic.

Hopefully it can help.

Hello @dumbl3d00r

I looked for possible options within Shopify settings that might help, but could not find an option to disable order confirmation emails entirely.

I also came across a similar thread answered by a Shopify staff member. According to their response, it is not possible to completely turn off these emails, as they serve as the only receipt customers receive for their online purchase.

mate you can edit the order confirmation emails in your admin settings under the ‘Notifications’ section. but honestly email is getting kinda saturated anyway lol. we were sending too many emails too and switched our cart recovery and confirmations to sms with txtcart. customers actually read the texts and engage better. might be worth considering if you’re already feeling like there’s too many emails flying around.

Yes, you can make basic edits to the customer notification emails but you are limited to adding a logo and picking the color you want your CTAs to be. There is no way to add a background image, change the background color, add an image in the body of the email or even pick the font that your brand uses. Adding the ability to edit just those additional properties would go a long want to making the pre-canned emails not look like a 5th grader made them.
