How can I remove TikTok pixel code from an online store?

Topic summary

Removing an incorrect TikTok Pixel from a Shopify store and ensuring the correct pixel is active. The store’s TikTok app shows the correct Pixel in Customer Data Sharing, but the TikTok Pixel Helper detects an old, incorrect Pixel.

Guidance provided: steps to disconnect or remove the TikTok Sales Channel (via Admin > Sales Channels > Marketing/Settings > disconnect TikTok for Business and Ads Manager, or remove the channel). This suggests the pixel is managed by the app/channel rather than theme code. However, this does not address swapping/removing an incorrect pixel specifically, and no theme/code location was identified.

Related performance issue: after installing TikTok app/pixel, a store became ~25% slower; after disconnecting, it remains ~15% slower. PageSpeed Insights flags an ā€œUnattributableā€ blocking resource; LCP now 2.5–4s. The user suspects leftover TikTok code and seeks a way to remove it. A product page link was provided for testing.

Status: unresolved. Key open questions:

  • How to purge old/incorrect TikTok Pixel when the app shows the correct one.
  • How to identify and remove ā€œUnattributableā€ blocking resources potentially left by TikTok integration.

Hi Ketan.

Thank you for your reply.

I am not sure what you mean. Please could you clarify your instruction?

For reference, I do not wish to remove tiktok as I am needing to be connected to it but I do need to remove the incorrect pixel code and ensure the correct pixel code.

Thank you

Thanks for reaching out to the Community with your question! Using TikTok to help market and grow your brand is a great idea so it’s awesome to see you investigating this advertising route. What were you hoping to accomplish with using TikTok?

If you’re looking to disconnect your TikTok account from Shopify, you’ll want to complete the following steps:

  • Login to your Shopify Store
  • Access your TikTok Sales Channel
  • Navigate to the ā€˜Marketing’ tab in the channel and select the ā€˜Set up’ or ā€˜Settings’ tab that appears there
  • From there, you can disconnect your TikTok account from the ā€˜TikTok for Business’ section and the ā€˜TikTok Ads Manager’ section that will appear.

You can also decide to remove the TikTok Sales Channel from your store, as this will also disconnect your TikTok account from Shopify. You can do this by going to the ā€˜Settings’ section of your admin, selecting ā€˜Sales Channels’ and the clicking the red ā€˜Remove’ next to the Tiktok Sales Channel.

Once you’ve completed these steps, your TikTok account should no longer be connected to your Shopify store and you should be able to change your TikTok account type without issue. Please try the above methods and let me know how things go!

Hi Ketan

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

My enquiry is none of those things. I need to know how to remove the incorrect pixel code from my store. I presume it is somewhere in the coding but I do not know where to look.

Thank you

Dear @KetanKumar ,

I have a similar issue. My Shopify sore was very fast, especially the product pages. I checked them all the time with PageSpeed Insights. At some point, I installed the TikTok app and I also connected that to TikTok Pixels, since then my store became about 25 % slower than before. It looks like that I am not able to sell on TikTok now, so I just disconnected the sales app and Pixels as well but it is still slow, about 15 % slower.

PageSpeed Insights now displays a blocking resource that I would like to remove - and I believe that it can be a left over code from Tiktok - but I cannot identifiy that because it says: ā€œUnattributableā€.

It would be nice to get the fast speed back because I lose a lot of sales dues to this speed issue. Most pages have 2.5-4 sec LCP due to the blocking resource that I cannot detect and remove. Her is an example page link that I used to check very often and it was over 96-97 scores before:

Product page for speed

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated how I could get rid of this blocking resource that can be some left over code from Pixel!

Best regards,

Susan D.
