Does anyone know if there is a way to reorder metafields?
That is, we have 10+ metafields for products and I’d like to make sure when listing a product they show in a logical order (moving from top level dept. to more granular ones such as ‘material’)
It doesn’t look like there is a way to reorder metafields so if we ever add a new one it would show at the top of the product listing screen, which could foil those best laid plans for logical ordering.
So…does anyone know if you amend the metafield order?
As an example, if I wanted to move this one up to the top of the list.
There’s not currently a way to reorder them. It’s a valid suggestion however as I can see how that would be useful for content editors to have them grouped in some logical way.
Indeed, it’s a shame that users can’t sort or group metafield definitions. It would’ve been a handy feature for content managers, as pointed out by Jason.
The good news is that there is a solution to this problem. If you are open to using a third-party app, you may want to consider checking out an awesome feature of our app — the metafield sets.
Metafield sets are pretty similar to Shopify’s definitions, but come with a couple of advanced metafield types (like select and multi-select lists), a better (arguably) UI, and a flexible filtering system. Not only can you group multiple metafields in a single set (and sort them manually, if needed), but you can also apply a specific set only to products that are matching a configured filter.
This feature was created long before metafield definitions were introduced and is loved by our users. Migrating metafield definitions to metafield sets or using both in a combination are quite popular solutions to remove the limitations of metafield definitions among our users.
May I ask - is it possible to reorder the variant options within a metafield? I currently have a variant metafield for my size filter, however, its not in numerical order - see attached.
