How can I resize a banner image for a perfect fit on homepage?

Hello,

I am trying to upload an image to the banner on the homepage using the measurements 1200x600 (which I’ve read is the correct size) but when I upload it it cuts off the edges and an important part of the image.

Does anyone know how to resize the image so that it fits exactly?

I have not added the image I was referring to as it looked terrible.
