How can I resolve a declined credit card issue on Shopify?

Hello,

I have been using the same Visa debit card for over 3 years to pay the Shopify monthly bill without any problem. But last month the card was rejected by Shopify. I have checked with my bank that said there’s no problem with my card, and I still can use it on other websites such as Amazon US.

I have replaced it with another debit card which works, but I would like to use the old one, unfortunately every time I try to reenter the card details, I get an error message : “There is 1 error. We could not verify your credit card. Transaction declined.”

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem directly with Shopify ?

When you go ahead to replace the card, possibly there is a mismatch within the information inputted in the billing address section.

If the problem still persists, reach out to the merchant/billing team, they can look into the account.

Hi @sebleb ,

It is difficult to determine why exactly this would be happening but in most cases when an error arises in relation to a payment method being used for billing purposes, it is because the is an error with the card or bank account that prevents Shopify from being able to charge it. Any information provided within Shopify about the issue is usually the limited information provided to us from your bank (which in this case would be that the credit card could not be verified).

You are welcome to contact our support team directly after authenticating yourself on your store, and there may be some additional information we can see on our end that we can provide. However, in most cases the merchant is usually required to speak with the bank to learn more about the error.

I solved the problem. I contacted the bank and asked them to check again. They called me back, they told me there was a problem and they fixed it. I can now use this card again with Shopify.
