I sell custom decals. I have 96 items flagged by Google saying they need a GTIN or MPN. Every decal is custom and is marked as such, so I shouldn’t need to add a GTIN or MPN. No matter what I do, Google keeps wanting one or the other.
Hi @obeck ,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you!
This question is a fairly common one. Google uses algorithms to determine what a product is and whether it meets Google’s requirements.
To help the algorithm identify your products correctly, you need to provide as much information as possible - which Google outlines in their own guidelines here and here. Marking your products as “custom” is not enough as the algorithm needs to verify that what you’ve indicated is correct, which is why additional data is required.
I hope this helps! Please have a look at that information and let me know how you get on.
Hi @obeck ,
My name is Brian, I’m the Cofounder and Chief Architect of Feedonomics. You are correct, custom products typically do not require GTINs. When GTINs or MPNs do not exist for your product, you need to use the [identifier_exists] attribute to indicate that a unique product identifier (UPI) is unavailable. In your case, the value for this attribute should be [no] or [false].
It is important to note that if this attribute is used incorrectly and a UPI does exist, Google will disapprove your product listing.
I hope this helps!
