How can I resolve the 'Email has already been taken' error while updating customer details?

Hi,

I have a customer who has placed an order with us before, he does not have an account. He placed another order with us and mis-typed his email, and then reached out to us saying that he never got a confirmation email… that’s because he didn’t enter the correct email. When I go into his most recent order to try to update it, I can’t enter his correct email because I am getting the error: “Email has already been taken”

Also, I have had someone with an existing account place an order using a different email address, and then ask us to combine his orders to his account so he can view his order history, but again, I couldn’t update his address and got the same error.

Any help?

If you go into order and on right section next to CONTACT INFORMATION click Edit. There you can change the email of the order only.

If you go into the Customer on the order page and then Customer overview you are actually editing the customer card so you cannot change the email to another existing customer.

I don’t believe there is an option to move an order to a different customer card.
