How can I resolve the product search issue with same store name?

I have a product that is called the same as my store name. Until recently, when customers searched for this item just the product listing came up but now all 27 pages of products show as the store name obviously is being included in the search. How can I fix this?

Thanks for reaching out in the Community today regarding this search issue you’ve recently started experiencing. This is a great place to come anytime you have any questions at all about your Shopify Store, or anything else Shopify related.

Search issues are often tied to the coding of the theme you may be using in your store so I have a couple questions I want to ask of you to gather some information:

  • What theme are you using in your store?
  • When did you first notice that this was happening?
  • Are you able to provide us with a link to your store so we can test the search function ourselves? Can you provide us with the exact product name for the one that should be populating when searching your store name?

In order to determine if this may be a theme specific issue, please download a free, fresh version of one of the Shopify Themes to your store. Search for your product within that theme and reply to this post letting me know if the issue seems to be persisting.

I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for your reply so we can determine some next steps.

Theme is Supply
Noticed two weeks ago
The website is https://theyarnbowl.com.au/

Product name: yarn bowl

Up until a couple of weeks ago it was working perfectly, as in the product came up as the only result when these two words were put in the search window. Now everything comes up. It was only brought to my attention when a customer asked how to find the product on the website. Even just putting in the word “bowl” brings up all the products

I jumped into your store and typed in ‘yarn bowl’ and was also able to have the 27 pages of products appear. Typing in ‘yarnbowl’ yielded me no results, and the world ‘bowl’ also generated 27 pages of products for me. Since I’m able to replicate the issue, we know it isn’t local.

Just to reference some information form my previous post, please try the following and let me know the outcome.

  • Download a fresh version of Supply from our Shopify Theme Store.
  • While previewing, or customizing, that newly installed version of Supply, type in ‘yarn bowl’ in your search bar and let me know what appears. If the 27 pages of products appear, then we can say the cause isn’t theme related. If the pages do not appear, then it’s very likely its tied to the coding in your currently live version of Supply.

Give those above steps a try and I’ll wait for your follow up here so we can keep digging into things.
