My client is currently migrating from wordpress into shopify. The problem is, they have a page that is “xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com/pagename” link. Now we created a blog post for it, but somehow we can’t see how we can change the URL into the same structure as the old one. We have a problem that the old link has backlinks on it and it would hurt the SEO part. Any suggestion on how we can fix this?
whenever we create a page or blog-post at the bottom of the page Shopify allow us to change url for seo purpose but “The resource makers like /pages, /collections, etc can’t be removed.”
Indeed as @oscprofessional mentioned, it is not possible to remove the /blogs/blog-name/ which is between the blog posts domain and handle.
Normally the solution would be just to create Redirect in Shopify Admin → Online Store → Navigation → URL Redirects.
It of course will still affect SEO, but a lot less as Google will see that it’s the same content just with a different path.
If you are open to it, you can look into migrating this data with our app Matrixify, as it will generate those redirects automatically for you, and also have a process to migrate over media files that are as links in the content as those would in regular migration still all point to WordPress. Here is our tutorial on how to migrate Pages and Post from WordPress to Shopify. If you wish to look more into that and have any questions, please reach out to our support directly.
