How can I save money on website shipping costs?

I recently launched my website through shopify, and I’ve had some orders. I’ve noticed it charges most of my customers a flat rate for shipping, and then I pay the rest. I was wondering if there are any options to save money on shipping and if anyone has more insight on this.

Did you set up your shipping rates?

Hi,

I believe we did, and we included the weight of the products but it did not make a difference, all customers are paying a flat rate and we are paying the additional cost. I watched the link you sent but it did not explain how to change this on our end. Thank you so much for your response.

Hi @oblossomc ,

You have mentioned correctly that flat rates might lead you to undercharge or overcharge the customers & you might lose money from your pocket too. In this scenario, the best practice will be to integrate with shipping carriers. This will help you charge accurate shipping costs based on your product weight & dimensions and shipping destination.

You can either ship with Shopify Shipping Services or if you are looking for an end-to-end shipping solution then try the PH MultiCarrier Shipping Label app. It allows you to display carrier-calculated shipping rates, print shipping labels, schedule pickups, and track orders.

Feel free to reach out to me or our shipping experts for any shipping queries. We will be happy to help!

Thanks Anindita. How can I set this up via Shopify Shipping Services? Do you have step-by-step instuctions or a video?

Hi @oblossomc ,

Shopify’s built-in shipping feature allows you to add weight information to your products to help calculate shipping rates, but it doesn’t have the capability to add dimensions. To use dimensions in your shipping calculations, you will need to use a shipping solution or carrier integration that supports dimensional weight calculations. This is because carriers use the size of a package as well as its weight to determine the shipping cost. So accurate dimensions are necessary for a precise shipping cost calculation.

How can I do that please?

@oblossomc , the PH MultiCarrier Shipping Label app allows you to input both weight and dimensions for your shipments. However, it is not possible to use Shopify rates with this app. In order to obtain rates, you will need to set up carrier accounts and the rates will be calculated based on the weight, dimensions, carrier service, and shipping location of your products.

Let me know if you have any queries, I will be happy to help!
