How can I section my product collection into categories?

I have a collection of products. These products typically fall under one of 4 categories. Is there a way that I can section these categories on the collection page?

For example, if I have a collection called “School” and the products I sell fall under the categories of:

  1. Backpacks
  2. Supplies
  3. Clothes
  4. Snacks

On my collection, can I create four sections like above, and show the products underneath each section?

Hello Patrick,

Yes, it is possible but you will have to write some code and create a new template. The easiest way (in my opinion) would be to create a new page specifically for your school collection.

  1. Under templates create a new file called page.school.liquid.

  2. Open the file page.liquid and copy paste the content to your newly created file page.school.liquid.

  3. Add {% section ‘collection’ %} 4 times to your newly created file after {{ page.content }} (one for each category).

  4. Under Online Store → Pages, create a new page for “School” and on the right side choose “page.school” as your theme template. Hit save.

  5. You can now customize this page under Online Store → Themes → Customize. Simply choose your page “School” at the top or navigate there through clicks.

This is a very simplified version on how you would do it. Especially for step 3 you will probably need to add some custom HTML to make it look good. Please let me know if anything is unclear.
