Hey there! Recently I’ve decided to embark on the journey of developing my own shopify theme. I decided once I get far enough I’d like to start selling it, but I’ve noticed the majority of themes nowadays get leaked faster than I can blink my eyes. What are some ways I can lock the themes to the customers’ accounts? Some methods I’ve thought of are locking to their email, their domain, or their shopify account. – Let me know!!! (pls)
-
Shopify Theme Store: If you plan to sell your theme on the Shopify Theme Store, it provides built-in protection mechanisms. Themes sold through the Shopify Theme Store are tied to the customer’s account, and they can only be used on stores associated with that account.
-
License Keys: Implement a license key system where customers receive a unique license key upon purchasing your theme. Customers would need to enter the license key in their Shopify store’s settings or theme editor to activate the theme. This method allows you to verify the authenticity of the license key and limit theme usage to authorized customers.
Hey there! Would you be down to talk some more on these methods of securing my themes? I’d love to hear some more of your thoughts, and pick your brain for some techniques. Let me know!
(Specifically I’m interested in the key system.)
