How can I sell products from only one specific brand on my Shopify store?

Hi everyone

I’m currently building my first Shopify store and would really appreciate some advice.

There is one specific established brand whose products I genuinely love and would ideally like to sell exclusively through my store, rather than sourcing products from lots of different suppliers.

I would like to approach this professionally and create a genuine partnership with the brand.

What would be the best way to set this up?

Would I need to become an authorised retailer or reseller, arrange a wholesale agreement, purchase inventory myself, or could the brand potentially fulfil orders directly for me?

I’m also wondering how product images, descriptions, inventory and orders would normally be connected to Shopify in this type of arrangement.

I’m very new to e-commerce, so I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience working directly with one brand or supplier in this way.

Thank you !!! :folded_hands:t3::leaf_fluttering_in_wind::sparkles::spiral_shell::coral:

Thank you so much for your response! This is really helpful.

I actually already have the specific brand in mind and I’ve been in direct contact with them. They are on board with the idea of working together, which I’m really excited about.

My main question now is how to structure the partnership and connect everything properly with my Shopify store. Ideally, I’d love for their products, inventory and order fulfilment to integrate as smoothly as possible rather than me having to manage everything manually.

Do you have any recommendations for the best setup when the brand is already willing to collaborate?

Thank you again for your help :folded_hands:t3:

Since the brand is already on board, the setup path really depends on one thing: is the brand itself on Shopify? That answer changes everything.

If the brand runs on Shopify, the cleanest native option is Shopify Collective. It’s built for exactly what you’re describing: the brand (as supplier) shares the products they want you to sell, and their images, descriptions, and inventory sync into your store automatically. When you make a sale, the order routes to them, they ship it directly to your customer, and the payment between you two is handled automatically. No holding stock, no manual re-entry. A couple of requirements worth knowing up front: your store and theirs need to be in the same country and using the same currency, you’ll need an active plan (not Pause and Build) with Shopify Payments set up, and it doesn’t cover digital products or gift cards.

If the brand is not on Shopify, Collective won’t apply. Then it comes down to how they want to work:

  • If they’ll fulfill for you (dropship-style), ask whether they have an official Shopify app or a supplier feed you can connect.
  • If you’re buying and holding inventory yourself, you’d import their catalog (a product CSV export from them is the usual way) and manage stock in your own store.

So the useful next question for the brand is simply: “Are you on Shopify, and if so can we connect through Shopify Collective?” If yes, that’s by far the least manual route. If you tell me which of these situations you’re in, I can point you to the exact setup steps.

The brand is The Organic Company, a Danish organic textile company. Their website is:

theorganiccompany.dk

I’m particularly interested in selling their products through my Shopify store while keeping the experience as seamless as possible for both the brand and the customer.

If you’re able to see whether they already have a Shopify integration, wholesale system, API, or another way of syncing products, inventory and orders, I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you again for taking the time to help :folded_hands:t3:

Thank you so much this is incredibly helpful!

The brand is The Organic Company, a Danish organic textile company. I’ve already been in direct contact with them and they are open to working together.

I don’t yet know whether their own store runs on Shopify, so I’m going to ask them whether they use Shopify and, if so, whether they can work with me through Shopify Collective.

Ideally I would love a setup where their products and inventory sync with my store and orders are sent directly to them for fulfilment, rather than me holding stock myself.

Thank you again- this has given me a much clearer idea of what I need to ask them next :folded_hands:t3:

Got some good news, I checked and The Organic Company is on Shopify (their site returns the Shopify platform signals). So the Collective route you’re planning to ask them about is genuinely on the table, not hypothetical.

Two things that decide whether it actually connects:

  1. They have to turn on Collective as a supplier on their side. Being on Shopify makes it possible, but it isn’t automatic. They’d install the Shopify Collective supplier app and share a price list with your store. That’s the specific thing to ask them, phrased as: “Are you open to adding us as a retailer through Shopify Collective?” rather than just “are you on Shopify.”
  2. Same country and currency. Collective connects a retailer and supplier only when both are in the same supported country and using the same currency. They’re Danish (DKK). So if your store is based in the EU on the same currency setup, you’re in good shape. If you’re somewhere else, that’s the one thing that could block Collective specifically, and you’d fall back to a wholesale/import setup instead.

If Collective is a no for any reason, your fallback that still avoids holding stock is asking whether they’ll do drop-ship fulfillment against a product feed or CSV you import. Not as automatic as Collective, but it keeps you out of warehousing.

Where is your store based, out of curiosity? That’s the detail that determines whether Collective will actually connect with a Danish supplier.
