We are offering a student discount on our store, but would like to set a maximum total amount. For example, students would receive 50% off up to $1000. We’ve found several apps that handle discounts, but none that allow you to set a maximum up-to dollar amount. We worry that the system could be abused without a maximum limit.
Topic summary
A merchant wants to offer students a 50% discount but cap the total discount at $1,000 to prevent abuse. They’ve searched for apps but haven’t found one supporting maximum dollar limits on percentage discounts.
Current Status:
- Shopify’s native discount system does not support maximum value caps on percentage-based discounts
- Another merchant confirms experiencing the same limitation
Proposed Solution:
A community member recommends Nex Discounts (also called “Discount King”), which allows setting percentage discounts with maximum dollar caps (e.g., “10% off, up to $200 max”). They’ve successfully implemented this feature and shared a screenshot demonstrating the configuration.
The discussion appears to have found a viable third-party solution, though implementation by the original poster is not yet confirmed.
We are in bed of this also with no situation from Shopify.
Hi,
Shopify’s native discount system doesn’t support setting a maximum value for percentage-based discounts. We had the same concern about potential abuse, especially with high-value orders. There’s an app called Nex Discounts that lets you create exactly what you’re describing — for example, “50% off up to $1000.”
With it, we created a discount like “10% off, up to $200 max” — exactly what we needed to protect our margins. Attaching a screenshot of how we’ve set it up, in case it helps!
