I sell framed and unframed original art. I have added 2 variants (framed and unframed) under the product. I want that if the framed art is sold, the entire product becomes sold out (including unframed art) and not just the framed art.

The easiest way to avoid this would be to create two different products entirely. One framed and one unframed. This is because when you create a variant, it counts as inventory so unless all variants sell out, the product will remain appearing as in stock.
Another option would be to eliminate the usage of variants entirely, and use a product options app - such as Infinite Options - to add the unframed options such as a checkbox, drop-down or radio button. Example here:
