Hello dear community, I’m so close to completing my own shop, but I still have a few difficulties to overcome. My default language is German. However, I added an additional language manually (English). I also added the correct currency for each market. Now I just need the help that my shop automatically changes the correct currency and language. The problem is that the geolocation apps are all set to my default language and I can’t set them to English because I would have to change my default language to do so. But that would reset everything from me and it would all have been in vain. Is there any solution? I only want the geolocation on the English language because the German language is only spoken in 2 countries and English is of course much more widely represented than German. I would appreciate it sooo much.
Hey @FabianHuber
Thanks for reaching out to the Shopify community.
Helping you with the quick steps to get this done.
-
You can use this app: https://apps.shopify.com/translate-and-adapt
-
You can go to app Settings > Manage
-
Under languages > English > Click on 3 dots
-
Set English for the rest of the locations:
Do let me know if this was helpful.
I already came to a different solution. Your solution works if you want to let the customer manually change the language. But I also wanted to have the language for each country changed automatically and for this I had to create a subfolder for every market on my store and then change the default language for those different markets.
Your solution is not wrong tho, thats why i gave it a like and marked it as a solution.
Thank you tho! ![]()
Hi @FabianHuber - could you explain to me how you proceeded? I am facing the same challenge! Thank you very much!
OMG!
Thank so so much for publishing your solution, I was searching for one that would really work long enough to say that this is way better than other options. Also this method has other benefit: you can assign multiple languages for the market and make one of them default if you need several language options for different markets.
To others who are looking to do the same thing:
-
You need to add localized versions for your website (you can use Translate & Adapt or other translation options)
-
Go to Markets and open the market that needs different default language
-
Open Languages and Domains
-
Go to Manage domains
-
Click on the option with subfolders and add market prefix
-
Save and assign default language that you need
