How can I set specific items for pickup or shipping only in my online boutique?

I currently have in store items that I would like to have the option of local pick up or ship out. But I also contract with a DropShip Company that ships out for me. Is there an option to select certain products or collections for ship only and/or pick up? When I select the local pick up option In the main Shopify settings it sets it for all products including my dropship items. I would love to get this fixed. I’m really new to shopify but just read a few things about apps that may assist in this matter. Plz help if you have dealt with this issue.

Thanks

Hi @Lindseyb29 ,

Shopify’s local pickup feature gives you a straightforward approach to offering the option for pickup or delivery. Unfortunately, as you’ve discovered, it isn’t flexible enough to limit local pickup to certain products. Even if you put products in different Profiles. local pickup still applies to the entire store.

If you’re open to using a third-party solution, Intuitive Shipping can help with this. Using our Scenario system, you can make shipping and local pickup available for certain products, while other products only get a shipping option. We have a few different product conditions, so you can set this up by vendor, collection, type, tag, SKU, etc. Whichever condition is easiest to set up.

If you would like to learn more about how to do this, please feel free to book a demo with one of our team members who can walk you through the process live and answer any questions you might have.

Intuitive Shipping is free to install and use in Setup & Testing mode for an unlimited time, so you can try it out and make sure it works for your store before activating and starting a live free trial period.

Please note that to use Intuitive Shipping - or any third-party rate calculation app - Shopify requires that you enable their third-party carrier-calculated shipping rates feature. This feature is $20 USD per month. If you change your Shopify billing to annual, they will add the feature at no additional cost (plus they will reduce your billing plan by 10%). If you’re on the Advanced plan or higher, this feature is already included and activated by default.

Ron

Hey, @Lindseyb29 . There is a workaround possible by creating another Shipping profile (Settings-Shipping-Create new profile), add the items that you have available for local pickup to that profile, set the shipping zone to the area close in proximity of where the items can be picked up at your store/location. Then add a shipping rate to the zone and call it ‘Local Pick Up - Address Name Here’ and set the price to free.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Hey Dirk,

That’s a good workaround. I hadn’t considered that one, as I was only thinking about the actual ‘local pickup’ feature (which is store-wide, regardless of Profile), rather than using a custom rate as a local pickup option.

There might be situations where one of Lindsey’s customer wants to order a mix of products. So, they might add a product from the drop-ship profile that only has shipping and a product from the local pickup profile that has both shipping and local pickup options. For a customer who lives in the ‘local’ zone, how would that work? Would they still get both a shipping and ‘local’ rate at checkout? If so, I’m assuming the drop-ship profile shipping rate would be blended with both of the ‘local’ profile rates (paid shipping and free pickup), so if the customer chooses the ‘local’ rate, they’re still paying the shipping for the other item, not matter what.

Similar question for a customer who doesn’t live in the local zone. If they have a product in the cart that is from the local zone, would they just not get any rate until they remove that item?

Also, with regards to the local profile that only has the ‘local’ zone, that would still need to be at least state or province-wide, correct? I’m not sure if Lindsey would be able to localize that Profile by postal code or radius.

Asking for my own curiosity and a better understanding of Shopify’s built-in features, and in case Lindsey has additional complexity to her shipping that we may not be aware of.

Best regards,

Ron

Thank you for the info. By chance is there a way to make a product available for pick up or shipping at checkout?
So the customer has the choice? I’ve seen Shopify sites that have it. Just not sure how to make it happen.

Wow… you were able to dig deeper into this issue. I have played around
with the shipping profiles. I decided to set my main shipping profile to
local pickup and delivery. Now I’m trying to create a separate shipping
profile for my dropship items for shipping only. I hope this works for me.
Thank You Dirk and Ron for replying to this issue. I will keep checking
back for anymore advice and let yall know how it goes.

Hi @Lindseyb29 ,

Klaudia here from the Zapiet team! You might find our app Store Pickup + Delivery helpful!

Using our app, you will be able to configure which items you’d like to offer for pickup and which ones for shipping. For store pickup, you will be able to select specific products. We also have a conditional activation feature that can be configured using tags/vendors/collections to set specific items as available/unavailable for a method.

I would like to recommend signing up for our 14-day free trial! You may also check out our Demo Store to interact with our widget, which appears on the cart page!

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Kindest regards,

I followed your instructions and yes it does work but with issues. Adding the new profile and adding products work great. But it is now only allowing pickup for all items across my store. Do you have any more suggestions? I have had other replies to this issue and it involves adding another app to my shopify. What do you think? Is that the best Option? Or will it just cause more issues?
