I have a slight problem with our shipping. We use weight to workout prices. However when we offer free shipping over €50, the customer is offered the free shipping and also the weight cost price as another option. For example:
Over 350g - €5.95
Free shipping over €50
It’s pretty annoying. I would have thought the system is smart enough to only show free shipping. Any ideas how to fix this?
Your customer will see both options because their order is over 350g and over €50. Is there a reason you have the 350g shipping rate? It would be best to make a shipping rate for orders €0-€49.99. Then your customer won’t see both options.
Let me know if that works for you and let me know if you have any further questions! I would love to learn more about your business. What type of products do you sell?
Go to your Theme Editor. To do this, navigate to Online Store > Themes, and then click the Customize button for your active theme
In the Theme Editor, locate the liquid file where the cart and shipping options are displayed.This typically includes the cart.liquid or cart-template.liquid file
{% if cart.total_price > 5000 %}
Are you wanting to offer free shipping if the order is over 350g? If so, I believe the best thing to do would be to enter in all of your rates based on weight so 0-100g is €2.45, 101g-200g is €2.95 and so on. Then depending on what weight you want to offer free shipping at you can just create a rate that is free. Just make sure all weights have a rate so that your customer is always seeing a shipping price at checkout.
Let me know if that makes sense or if I need to provide more information!
What you are looking for (weight based shipping with a total based free shipping threshold) isn’t available in Shopify shipping settings. This will require a third party rate providing app to do.
To have any rate providing app (such as ours - Intuitive Shipping) you will need to have Third Party Calculated Rates enabled (this is a mandatory function from Shopify, with a base plan level of Shopify and above), and depending on your plan level, can cost $20 a month extra.
In our app, you can have the rate be weight based, and inside the Shipping Method, have a free shipping threshold (by cart total). Once the cart total has been met (in your case, $50) the weight based tier is removed and only the free shipping option is shown at checkout.

If you read ChelseySoper reply, it explains what I need although I’m not looking for an app. It should be a basic shopify function. We can’t offer free delivery over 350g because many items could be on sale so it can’t be free shipping.s. It’s a major shopify flaw. Why would you have a system that display two shipping options? There should be code in that allows free shipping when chosen to be the only option displayed. So if we make delivery free over €50 it overrides displaying weight because it’s free and weight shouldn’t matter. As a Shopify Customer, we shouldn’t have to buy a $240 a year app when really Shopify should have a line of code to fix the issue.
