How can I stop my orders from being split. I had two orders come in with two items however each item was placed on separate or with different shipping costs.

Not quite fits the AMA theme, but:
This is most likely related to your inventory and location settings / state.
If the system gets order for 2 items, but only one is available at default location, it will do the split.
Of course, it’s the most basic reason for splits, hard to tell without seeing the configuration.
