How can I stop SMS messages and manage stored credit card info in Shop Pay?

Every Shopify store at which I shop, sends me a text message that says “XXXXXX is your Shop Pay code.” This even happens for stores that I’ve never shopped at previously. It’s like a global Shopify payment storage. I also have no clue which credit card is stored on the service.

How can I see which credit card is stored there, remove it, and disable the SMS messages?

Hey @chris027

Eunice here from the Shopify team, thanks for posting. This is a really good question, I’d be happy to explain:

Those who opt-in to Shop Pay will have their shipping and billing addresses, shipping method, as well as their credit card information saved and securely encrypted for future purchases.

It has been known to receive codes from Shop Pay for stores you’ve never visited, and I understand this can be a scary situation. Though it’s annoying to receive these messages, those receiving Shop Pay codes do not have their information compromised. They are receiving these messages because another user accidentally entered the wrong phone number when signing up for Shop Pay.

If these messages are causing a nuisance then you can opt-out of Shop pay here.

To check which credit card is stored all you need to do is visit a store powered by Shopify and take an item to checkout. When you request a Shop Pay code and enter this at the checkout, the last 4 digits of your credit card will appear before you finalize the purchase.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to respond here.

Cheers!

@Eunice I am a Shopify shop owner as well, will deleting my Shop Account to stop the text messages affect my Shopify store or my ability to access it?

Users don’t get these phantom texts from Amazon - where by sheer volume my phone number could be typed wrong by many more users. Is shopify considering this worth fixing ?
