How can I successfully transfer a domain between two stores?

Topic summary

Domain purchased on Store 1 was being transferred to Store 2 within the same Shopify account. The transfer via TXT record (DNS text record used to verify ownership) appears misconfigured; the domain no longer shows in Store 1 and cannot be edited there.

Store 2 displays DNS errors: CAA record (controls which certificate authorities can issue SSL), CNAME record (should point to shops.myshopify.com), and nameserver record (DNS servers hosting the zone). Messages note DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate.

Support clarifies they cannot access accounts in public channels for security reasons. A transfer of domain management between Shopify stores can take up to 24 hours after initiation; they ask whether the goal is management transfer versus just pointing, and request the specific error details.

After receiving context, support advises contacting Shopify’s Live Team to authenticate and investigate, as account-level access is likely required.

Status: unresolved. Next steps: wait up to 24 hours for transfer completion, then work with the Live Team to restore management and correct DNS records.

hello, I tried to transfer one of my domain to another store from my shopify account, but I got an error :

the problem is that the domain disappeared from the store where I bought it ( if u acess my account you will be able to see the details and that I bought it) I have actually 3 stores on my account and you will be able to see on which one I bought it and which one has the issue because i did not succeed to transfer it.

could an admin finalize the domain transfer to the account where there is an issue, please?

kind regards

Hi, @Maxben !

Thanks so much for connecting with our network. I’d be glad to provide further steps for assistance with this.

At this time, we are unable to provide account support through our public spaces due to security and privacy reasons. Therefore, while I can’t actually look into your accounts to see what might be going on in the back-end, I can share my knowledge.

Note:

After a domain transfer has been initiated between two stores, you can expect to wait up to 24 hours before the transfer is complete. If 24 hours have not yet passed, please allow for that time to see where the domain is currently attached.

To make sure I can correctly guide you, I will need a little more information. When you reference a domain transfer, I assume you’re not referring to simply pointing the domain to a new store? Rather, you are trying to change which of your Shopify accounts manages the domain?

  • If yes, please tell me how far along you got with the correct steps (in the linked doc above) before you experienced an error.

  • What was the error specifically?

With that context, I can certainly offer next steps to reclaim your domain.

Warm regards,

Hello, thanks for the answer!

So I have one shopify account which contains 3 stores

let’s call them store 1 2 and 3

I bought the domain on the store 1 and tried to transfer it on the store 2, I did the manoeuvre with the TXT but I apparently did something wrong which means that the domain did not connect on store 2

The issue is that the domain disappeared from store 1 and I can’t edit the TXT anymore

I got this on the store 2 :

Resolve these domain issues to ensure your Shopify site works for customers.

  • Error fetching domain CAA record: Open your domain provider’s DNS settings for and check that the record is set correctly. Note that record updates can take up to 48 hours to come into effect.
  • Error fetching domain CNAME record: Open your domain provider’s DNS settings for and check that the record is set to shops.myshopify.com. Note that record updates can take up to 48 hours to come into effect.
  • Error fetching domain nameserver record: Open your domain provider’s DNS settings for and check that the record is set correctly. Note that record updates can take up to 48 hours to come into effect.

But because I cannot edit these details anymore on store 1 I can’t connect my domain at all to store 2 to fix the error

This is why I would need help to connect the domain that I bought from store 1 to store 2

I hope it makes sense

kind regards
