You mentioned that you need some help with changing your store from live to inactive, and also asked about enabling the password on your store. I would be happy to explain how to do this!
The steps for enabling your password page, and essentially making your storefront inaccessible to people who visit are actually quite simple:

Navigate to Online Store > Preferences.

In the Password protection section, click the Restrict access to visitors with the password option.

Where it says Password, you can enter the specific password that customers can use to access your online store (make sure it is different to your Shopify account password, which should never be shared).

If you want to display a message to people who visit your store, then you can do so in the Message for your visitors section. If you don’t want to show a message, then leave this field blank.

Click Save.
After doing these steps, the password page will now be active and unless people have the password, they will not be able to get to your storefront.
