How can I sync shopify returns with Google Analytics 4?

Topic summary

Issue: Shopify refunds update in Shopify admin but do not reflect in Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Suggested approaches:

  • Manually upload a CSV via Google Analytics Data Import to match refunded transactions by transaction ID.
  • Alternatively, set up an API-based import (Google support link provided).

Clarification: The original poster notes that GA4 does not offer a specific “import refunds” option, suggesting the provided instructions may apply to older versions or different features than GA4’s current capabilities.

Status: Unresolved. Another participant asks how the issue was ultimately solved, with no confirmed solution shared yet.

Notes: GA4 = Google Analytics 4. No attachments or code are central to understanding this thread.

When I make a refund, the profits are updated correctly in my shopify CP, but not on Google Analytics. How can I sync that data with GA?

You can do it manually by uploading a CSV file to match the refunded transaction with the transaction ID.

Head to admin, under Property, select Data Import, click Create

Or you can also choose to set up an API. You can check out more information here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6066862?hl=en#zippy=%2Cin-this-article

Hello thank you for your answer, but my question is specifically about the current version GA4. Here you don’t have the import refunds option.
