- Pin the existing ‘Related Products’ metafield
- When editing individual products, scroll right to find the pinned metafield
- Manually select specific products to recommend
Important Notes:
- This metafield is created by the free Shopify Search & Discovery app
- The process must be repeated for each product individually
- Recent interface changes moved metafields under “Custom Data” in settings
- Some users on Dawn 8.0.0 and other themes report not seeing pre-existing metafields, suggesting availability may vary by theme or app installation

What kind of changes are you looking to bring to the recommended products?
If you are looking to change the wording of that section, you can do so in the theme editor if you are using one of our 2.0 themes (looks like you are since you mentioned you’re using Dawn). Follow these steps:
- Click on Online Store > Themes > Customize.
- Select the dropdown menu in the top center of the screen and select “Products” > “Default Product”
- From the left handside menu, click on Product Recommendations to see the fields you can edit.
If you are looking to change the products specifically featured in this section, this won’t be possible. Natively, the feature is set up with an algorithm that takes data from products often purchased together as well as products that have similar descriptions. It is automatically selected and changes depending on the metrics your store develops over time.
Should you wish to have a permenant set of products featured on every product page, you can certainly do this adding a Featured collection section to your Default product template. Simply click on this link:

We are also using dawn and had the same question, but specifically to change the products featured in the “you may also like products” section. We found a solution using the metafields - we didn’t need to create it, it was already there with your store by default.
Go to Store Settings → Metafields → Products. There you will see a metafield called ‘related products’ Click the pin icon next to it - as shown here :
Now when you go into edit a product page, scroll right to the bottom and you will see your pinned metafield. Click in the grey box next to ‘Related products’ and the button will appear asking to select products:
Click the button and a pop up of all your products will be listed and you can select individually the ones you want to be recommended for a specific product.
Hope this helps. It is a bit laborious as you need to do for each product but it works great.

Is this only available on some themes? I am using Flex theme, and when I go to settings, I do not see “Metafields” in the sidebar..
Hiya, yes the menu seems to have changed recently..metafields are now under the ‘custom data’ menu item

Trying the same steps but I can’t get this to work in the dawn theme we are using version Dawn 8.0.0

Same here…under Custom Data, there are no pre-existing metafields.
These metafields are created and managed by the free Shopify Search & Discovery app. In this app you can see which products Shopify is auto generating recommendations for each product. Whilst Shopify recommends using the auto generated recommendations, it is possible to override them with manual recommendations within the app.
