How can I test filters on Dawn theme without making it live?

Hi there,

I’m looking to upgrade our theme to 2.0 from Debut to Dawn.

I’m able to customize most of the theme prior to the swap.

One of the main reasons for the swap is to have a better filter system.

In order to filter things such as ‘colour’ and ‘wood type’ I understand I need to create metafields and populate the information on each product page.

I would like to test and tweak the filter settings before we swap, however as our current theme doesn’t support filters I’m unable to assign metafeilds to filters under the navigation settings to achieve this.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how we can actually see the functionally firstly without having to make Dawn our live theme?

Unfortunately I don’t think there is an easy way to do this in the preview theme (which is what I assume you’re looking to do).

We use a test store/ staging environment for these situations.

As I cant assign the metafields, previews won’t show anything no. I’m more talking about the customize space, but the premise is the same I guess.

I wanted to avoid having to set up an entirely new store just to test, I have quite a few products, plus I’m sure this would cost? Also, I’m not a coder, so I have no clue how to utilize a staging environment outside of shopify.
