Hello! I sell Journals and offer 3 options for each journal:
I would like to be able to track how much paper I have. Because I offer options, I stock my paper separately from my covers so that I can put the appropriate paper in the cover as I receive orders. Also, variants track the cover and the type of paper as one item and would not give me a clear idea of how much of each paper style I have in stock. to accurately track how much paper I have I would need to have the paper set as it’s own product. This isn’t really a problem because I can easily do this. The problem is that I am afraid people will not notice that the paper is not automatically included and will forget to add it to their order. Is there a way I can ensure people are prompted to choose a type of paper before checking out?

Thank you for reaching out here and posting your concern.
You could achieve this by making a Warning on the Checkout page or Cart page.
- Within the Cart page, you can enable Order note and edit your order notes label as a warning like " Make sure you choose a type of paper before checking out". This document will walk you through step by step how to enable this feature within your Shopify Admin.
- An alternative way to get around it is using third-party apps such as Product Warnings on Checkout

I noticed it’s been a while since you raised this topic, and you’ve already received a solution. However, I’d like to offer another useful suggestion that you (or other members) can consider if you encounter a similar issue in the future
.
My suggestion is to use the Easify Product Options app to create a product option for customers to choose the paper type on the product page while still effectively managing inventory for each paper type.
Here’s a quick demonstration on how to set it up:

Create your “Journal” products with their quantities and prices representing the covers’ quantities and prices. You don’t need to create any options or variants for these products.

Install the Easify Product Options app and create a new option set:
- Add an option for customers to select the paper type (or no paper included) using the Dropdown option type. You can set this option as required, so customers have to select a specific paper type or no paper before adding the product to the cart.
- Select existing products on your site that are associated with each of your option values (e.g., Bullet & Lined). The product’s images, names, prices (and quantities) will be automatically updated to the option values’ images, labels, prices (and quantities). This way, when customers choose a paper type, it will add the price of that paper type to the total cost and deduct the quantity of that paper type automatically.

For the option value “Do not include paper,” there should be no associated product and no extra prices.
