How can I track which packing slips have already been printed?

Hi everyone,

we use Shopify and our employee prints the packing slips directly from the admin.
The issue is that we currently have no way of knowing which orders already had their packing slip printed and which did not. This creates the risk of printing duplicates.

My questions are:

  • Is there a way in Shopify to automatically mark or tag an order once a packing slip has been printed?

  • If not, does anyone have a proven workflow to handle this situation?

As far as I remember there isn’t any option which will let you mark it as printed already but an alternative solution would be that you can let your employees know that once they print the packing slip of the order then in that order comments in the Shopify admin dashboard, they can write a comment and say something like “Packing Slip has been Printed”.

In that way if another employee tries to print again, they will see the comment that the packing slip of it has been already printed.

Unfortunately, adding a manual comment is not really feasible in our case. We usually print packing slips in bulk (sometimes 50 at once), and it would be too time-consuming to go into each order and leave a note.

What I am actually looking for is some kind of automation that tags or marks the order automatically when the packing slip has been printed. That way, even if an employee forgets, we don’t run into mistakes or duplicate prints.

I would also be open to using another free app for printing orders/packing slips, as long as it provides a way to clearly see which orders have already been printed.

Does anyone know of a solution like this?

Thanks for clarifying that. The idea with tagging orders with flow during bulk printing sounds like it could work.

Could you explain how exactly you would set up the Shopify Flow for this?

  • Which trigger should I use?

  • And how can the Flow “know” when a packing slip has been printed in bulk?

I’d like to make sure the tagging happens automatically in the background, so employees don’t need to remember to add tags manually.

Search the “PrintTag” app in the app store it does just this

Just select the checkbox to tag orders when at the prompt and they will all be tagged with whatever you decide for it to say aka ”Printed”
